This week we reviewed the letter Ss sound, formed the letter and compared it with the letter Mm sound. The kids easily heard the difference between these 2 sounds in the beginning and ending of a word. We are laying some great foundations for reviewing all the letters/sounds and beginning to read in small groups. Our science goal for the next two weeks is to learn about butterflies: how they look, label their 6 body parts, retell their life cycle and know facts about them that make them special. This week we began by introducing non-fiction books. This helped us label a butterflies body, know some interesting facts and to talk about symmetry. Our week ended by making Butterflies, highlighting our new knowledge on symmetry. This week we also introduced slate work--which is just a short way of saying dry erase boards. We practiced listening , thinking and drawing numbers. We used rhymes to help us with the formation. I will share these with you this week as we finish numbers 6-10. The kids were very excited to get some time in the computer lab and to work on Chromebooks in our room. They were very patient as we began teaching them how to log in and use a mouse. Taking turns is not always easy :( Lastly we talked about whole body listening. What it looks like when our eyes, ears, mouth, hands/feet, heart and brain act when we are really listening. This is something we will work on all year.
