This week we celebrated Read Across America . THANK YOU for all the DR. Suess books you sent in . The kids loved them all. We spent a lot of our language time talking about rhyming words, changing beginning sounds to make new words and word families. It was easy to incorporate these ideas into DR. Suess hats and making our own green eggs rhyming words. We also worked on writing, focusing on adding more detail to our writing by using sight words and phonetic spelling to express ourselves. The kids worked hard on designing their own socks and writing about them as well as finishing up an extension to a favorite book, The Big Orange Splot by
Manus Pinkwater . In this extension the children made a house look like all their dreams. They are getting used to writing daily and really trying to do their best. It's been fun to see them grow in this way. We have continued to open mail and are getting close to everyone knowing their address--keep practicing. In math we continued with coins, sorting them ,describing their attributes and understanding how they can be exchanged. We also introduced the idea of surveys-or gathering data to form a graph. What Pet Should I Get ? By Dr. Suess was the perfect fit for introducing this idea. We also were able to spend some time with our Reading Buddies reading DR. Suess and making our own Sam I am Rhyme. In addition to Mrs. Stott's Reading Buddies , we have also added some extra reading time with Reading Buddies from Mrs. Zimmerman's Room. Our focus here is working on sight words and reading fluently. They were super excited to read with us --and our children were super excited to read with them. It was perfect week of high interest and learning.
THIS WEEK: No SCHOOL Monday. Lydia is the Star of the Week. Practice addresses and phone numbers. Report Cards available on Thursday.
REMINDERS: Tuesday-Library, Wednesday-Gym, Friday-Art.
